After qualifying I worked as a Basic Grade Occupational Therapist in St Columcille’s Hospital, Dublin in General Medicine and Care of the Elderly.

In December 1999 I was delighted to have the opportunity to work with Enable Ireland Wicklow Services. Enable Ireland is a national voluntary organisation providing services for children and adults with a primary physical developmental delay and/or physical disability throughout the Republic of Ireland.

In 2003 I was appointed a Senior Occupational Therapist and in 2004/05 and 2006/07 was in the role of Acting Occupational Therapy Manager.

In 2006 I qualified as a Manual and People Handling Instructor and Risk Assessor and provided training to all staff within Enable Ireland Wicklow Services.

For nearly thirteen years I enjoyed working as a member of the interdisciplinary team, in partnership with families to provide intervention within an Integrated Holistic Model. I provided assessment and intervention of the child’s strengths and needs in all activities of daily living (play, self-care, leisure, 24hr postural management, assistive technology, upper limb function, splinting, handwriting, visual perception and environmental adaptations). Part of my role involved regular liaison with schools and community services.

I primarily provided occupational therapy to children and young adults with cerebral palsy but I also worked with children with spina bifida, developmental delay, muscular dystrophy, developmental coordination disorder, dyspraxia and autism.

I supervised and supported Basic Grade Occupational Therapists, Therapy Students and Occupational Therapy Assistants.  I continue to provide supervision to Basic and Senior Grade Occupational Therapists.

As part of my continued professional development I attend regular courses, study days and conferences. I have completed formal training in the areas of Bobath Therapy, Sensory Integration, Assistive Technology, Visual Perception, 24hr Postural Management, Seating, Splinting  and Handwriting. I am registered with CORU and the Association of Occupational Therapists Ireland (AOTI) and a member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). I am currently the secretary for the AOTI Private Practice Advisory Group.

I have extensive experience in assessment and provision of assistive technology such as laptops, educational software, powered wheelchairs, environmental controls and ensuring access to the technology whether directly or indirectly using switches, visual scanning, joysticks etc. I continue to work with children and young adults who use assistive technology on a daily basis.

In 2012 I set up my own private practice OT Assist providing a range of Occupational Therapy Services  with a special interest in Assistive Technology. I have experience in preparing Medico-Legal Reports in Assistive Technology and Occupational Therapy.
